If you employ staff in Hong Kong (whether local or expatriate), you will need to make the appropriate filings (for joiners, leavers and those in position at the end of the fiscal year) to the Inland Revenue Department (“IRD”) and to enrol (with exceptions) the staff into an approved Mandatory Provident Fund ("MPF") scheme.

The employer and the employee must each contribute 5% of the employee’s gross monthly salary up to a contribution limit of HK$1,000 per month. This limit will be increased to HK$1,250 during 2012.
